von Ottokar Wüst, Präsident des VfL Bochum von 1962
bis 1994: Vieles von der Entwicklung des Fußballs im
Ruhrgebiet, worüber der Autor schreibt, habe ich selbst
erlebt. Ich finde es wichtig, daß den treuen Fans ein
solches Thema in überschaubarer Weise angeboten wird,
bei dem die Anekdoten nicht zu kurz kommen. Natürlich
freue ich mich, daß Wolfgang Viehweger mich gebeten
hat, zusammen mit Yildiray Bastürk das Grußwort
zu schreiben. „Yildi“ wohnt in Wanne, ich in Bochum,
wo andere Auswahlspieler leben. Das zeigt, daß ehemalige
und aktuelle Nationalspieler fast in jeder Stadt des Ruhrgebiets
zu finden sind. Die Integrationskraft des Fußballs kennt
keine Grenzen. Die Herkunft zählt nicht, nur die Leistung.
„Tief im Westen, wo die Sonne verstaubt, ist es besser,
viel besser, als man glaubt“, singt Herbert Grönemeyer.
Das gilt hier auch im Fußball. Möge das Buch ein
Leitfaden für einheimische und auswärtige Fans werden,
wenn sie bei der Fußball-WM 2006 wichtige Spiele im
Ruhrgebiet besuchen!

1994: A lot of the development of the football in the Ruhr
region, which the author describes, I have experienced myself.
I find it important to offer the dedicated football fans such
a topic in a comprehensible way where anecdotes do not come
off badly. I am delighted that Wolfgang Viehweger has asked
Yildiray Bastürk and me to write the greetings. "Yildi"
lives in Wanne, I live in Bochum, where other representative
players live. It shows that current and former international
players can be found in almost every city in the Ruhr region.
The unifying force of football has no limits. Your origin
does not count, it is your performance and achievement. "Deep
down in the West, where the sun hides behind dust, life is
much much better than most people would trust" is sung
by Herbert Grönemeyer. The same goes for football. May
this book become a manual for local and "foreign"
fans when they visit important matches during the Fifa World-Cup
2006 here at the Ruhr.

Bastürk, Nationalspieler:
Es ist für mich eine Ehre, ein Grußwort zu einem
Buch zu schreiben, das dem Fußball in der Geschichte
des Ruhrgebiets einen angemessenen Platz einräumt.
Der Autor lebt in Wanne-Eickel und weiß natürlich
von meinen Anfängen bei den Sportfreunden Wanne in
der Wilhelmstraße, wo meine Familie zu Hause ist.
Auch wenn ich jetzt bei Bundesligavereinen außerhalb
des Ruhrgebiets spiele (Hertha BSC Berlin), bleibe ich ein
„Wanne-Eickeler Junge“ und wünsche dem informativen
und unterhaltsamen Buch viel Erfolg in der Fan-Gemeinde
des Fußballs!

I feel honoured to write some words of greetings for a book
which gives football an appropriate place in the history
of the Ruhr region. The author lives in Wanne-Eickel and
of course he knows about my beginnings with Sportfreunde
Wanne-Eickel at Wilhelmstraße where my family lives.
Although I have left the Ruhr region to play for other Bundesliga
clubs (currently Hertha BSC Berlin) I still remain a Wanne-Eickel
boy and wish this informative and entertaining book a lot
of success with the football fans. |
